The Scharp-Lacy Research Institute
This newly formed institute focused on diabetes research will capture and continue the creativity, energy, and productivity of its namesakes to achieve solutions to the problems continuing to affect the millions of patients with diabetes who have hoped for cures, but have had to accept progress. The Scharp-Lacy Diabetes Institute is a California public benefit corporation that is not-for-profit and has applied for US government 501c3 status.


Mission Statement
The Scharp-Lacy Diabetes Institute is devoted to provide the environment and resources for its investigators to focus on outcome based diabetes research that is designed to provide new solutions for long-standing diabetes problems faced by people who currently suffer from its complications, regardless of where they live or the resources they may have available.


Objectives
•	To develop an effective international organization of diabetes investigators who will focus on the needs of diabetes researchers and patients with diabetes to create the next innovations that will lead directly to new products and treatments that can more rapidly and efficiently reduce the impact of this expanding disease on those who need it.

•	To recruit the best investigators who are willing to commit their research efforts to diabetes and who demonstrate their ability to obtain ongoing peer-reviewed research funding for their efforts from organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive Diseases, and Kidney of the National Institutes of Health, and others such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Global Health Initiative

•	To obtain critically needed research funds from informed and committed donors who want to fund research focused on the development of new solutions for the treatment of diabetes.
